Redmi launched the Redmi 9 smartphone first in Spain and Malaysia. Now, the budget smartphone has arrived in its home town China with more RAM. The budget smartphone is the newest addition to the Redmi lineup of smartphones in the country. Redmi will be skipping Note 9 series and instead make the Redmi 9 an entry-level offering for the country.
The Redmi 9 starts at CNY 799 or $113/₹8,550 for 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant, CNY 999/ or $141/₹10,690 for 4GB RAM + 128GB storage variant, and CNY 1199 or $170/₹12,832 for the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant. It will go up for pre-order starting from June 29 in the country.

The Redmi 9 sports a 6.53-inch FHD+ display with a modern aspect ratio. It is a water-drop notch display with a standard 60Hz refresh rate. In terms of cameras, it has a Quad-camera array with a 13MP primary lens, another 8MP secondary lens, a 5MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth sensor. At the front, it has an 8MP selfie snapper.
It is powered by the MediaTek Helio G80 chipset paired with up to 6GB of RAM exclusively for the China variant. The smartphone arrives with max 4GB of RAM in the global variant but the Chinese variant gets extra RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The storage here is expandable via a microSD card slot.
It has a massive 5,020mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging. it has a rear-mounted Fingerprint scanner and Face unlock for security. It has Android 10 out of the box with Redmi’s MIUI 12 on top of it. It comes with dual-band Wi-Fi with a 2.4GHz and a 5GHz band. It also has Game Turbo 2.0 mode for the enhanced gaming experience.

Other than this, the device has also been spotted on BIS certification that hints it could come under Poco branding in the Indian market. As of now, Poco hasn’t teased anything but we expect to hear more on the smartphone soon.
