Xiaomi has unveiled its latest Flagship phones Mi 8 and Mi 8 Explorer edition. In the Annual event Xiaomi also announced all new MIUI 10 which has several new features and optimisations. About the phones both the device will come with the similar hardware and design however the Mi Explorer edition will have a under the display fingerprint sensor, Mi 8 will offer 3D curved glass back body where the Mi 8 Explorer edition has the transparent glass body. Mi 8 becomes the first Android phone which has the Apple X like 3D face unlock feature and on top of that it has the in-display fingerprint sensor.
The display on both the device is 6.21-inch AMOLED display which is Full HD+ resolution and 18.7:9 aspect ratio. There is also a notch on the device which houses the camera, proximity sensor, earpiece and the infrared lights and lens for 3D Facial recognition and due to the notch on the Mi 8 it has 88.5% screen to body ratio. The display offers high 600 nits brightness with 6000:1 contrast ratio. In terms of processor the phone is powered by Snapdragon 845 processor coupled with 6GB RAM.
In terms of camera Mi 8 comes with Dual 12 MP AI camera with dual pixel autofocus, 4-axis optical image stabiliser and the 1.4µm (micron) pixel size for the primary camera. The Primary 12 MP camera has an aperture of f/1.8 where the secondary telephoto camera has the aperture of f/2.4 with 1µm pixel size.
The AI integration with the camera can auto-detect the different scenes for better photo output. The front shooter on the Mi 8 is a 20MP with an aperture f/2.0 and 1.8µm pixel size. Both the cameras can capture portrait photos using the AI technology. There is also a Studio lighting mode for portrait photos.
Mi 8 also comes with the Dual-frequency GPS for more accurate location detection. The dual GPS doesn’t use the L1 frequency like the other smartphones instead its on the L5 frequency which will better accuracy by eliminating radio disturbance. It also reduce signal delays making the navigation faster.
The battery on the Mi 8 is the 3400 mAh and there is also a Type C USB Charging port. Even though the Mi 8 has the Glass back it doesn’t have the wireless charging. In terms of OS the Mi 8 will run on MIUI 10 which is based on Android Oreo 8.1 out of the box. Some of the new feature of the MIUI 10 includes Xiaomi’s own AI Smart assistant.
Xiaomi has priced the Mi 8 Explorer edition 8GB RAM/128GB Storage at 3699 Yuan (INR 39000)where the Mi 8 comes in three variant 6GB RAM/64GB Storage priced at 2699 Yuan (INR 28000), 6GB RAM/128GB Storage priced at 2999 (INR 31000) Yuan and the 6GB RAM/256GB Storage at 3299 (INR 34000) Yuan. Mi 8 is available in Blue, White, Gold and Black colour.
